“Wardrobe essentials” is one of the most overused phrases in fashion. It usually means a list of things you are told you need. This is not that. It is a list of ten pieces that our editors genuinely wear on rotation — the ones that get reached for on a dark Monday morning when nothing else makes sense.

Each was chosen for three reasons: the fabric, the fit and the frequency with which it gets worn. None of them is a trend piece. All of them should still be in your wardrobe in five years.

Our editors choose every item independently. Some links are affiliate links; that never decides what we include. See our affiliate disclosure.
