The Living Room as a Wardrobe

Interiors and fashion have started to share a vocabulary — texture, proportion and one well-placed colour.

Look at the rooms people photograph and share now and you will notice something familiar: they are styled like outfits. A neutral base, natural textures, and one confident accent — a yellow armchair, a red lamp, a piece of art that does the talking.

Shared rules

The principles translate almost directly. Proportion matters: a large sofa wants a low, simple table. Texture adds interest without adding colour. And restraint is what makes the one bold choice work.

Buy slowly

The best rooms, like the best wardrobes, are assembled over time. Resist buying everything at once. Live with a space, notice what is missing, and add pieces you will keep.
